Hey, i have read the Wizard of Earthsea. I was lucky to chance upon this book way back when I was in the 12th, and that too in my school library(of all the places!). But to get to the point this was one of the first books i read in the fantasy genre, and i was hooked. I hadnt yet read Tolkien then and though Tolkien is a favourite this remains my top favourite, the book is simply beautiful and very highly recommended.

Hmm, I have heard others too praise this book a lot. Read a couple of le Guin’s which were average. So really looking forward to finishing this one.

Have you read ‘The Left Hand of Darkness’ by the same author ? Very heavy, more sociology than sci-fi/fantasy. Interesting nonetheless. And as for recommending a few, here are a few which have made their mark in my mind:

# Flatland by Edwin A Abbot ( this is available online)

# Rama Series by Clarke ( i know some people arent impressd, but Clarke weaves lovely stories magic, esp the first book in this series )

# Unaccompanied Sonata by Orson Scott card (arguably one of the best short stories I have read. Very poignant)

Have loads more but this should do for starters 🙂

The ones I have read are:

– Tombs of Atuan
– The Lathe of Heaven

Both of them were average. I have read “Ender’s Game” by Scott. Havent tried any other novel by him. Read Clarke, but havent heard of Edwin A Abbot.

Jake, mail me at sumit.dhar at gmail.com.
