Horrors of War… August 20, 2005

Close your eyes and think of someone very close to you. Now imagine someone:

– Piercing this person’s ears with hot rods
– Puncturing this person’s eyes, gouging them out
– Inflicting burns on his body using cigarettes
– Breaking his bones and teeth
– And after torturing him in this brutal fashion for over 22 days, shooting him dead.

This is what the Pakistani army did to Lt. Saurabh Kalia of the 4th JAT Regiment of the Indian Army during the Kargil war. Imagine the plight of the old parents of this young man who received his body in such a state, imagine their rage and helplessness.

We talk so much about the power of the blogosphere. What use is that power if we can not help these parents by raising this issue so that it is heard by International Human Rights Organisations? We have seen instances of main stream media in the US championing issues that were raised by bloggers. Why not in India?

I am making this post with a very clear intent. I want all those who read this post to please raise this issue on their blogs. I realize, making a general appeal like that and expecting others to post will not work. Very specifically, I would like you Chandroo and you Sambhar Mafia to raise it on your blog and make two of your friends responsible for publishing it on their blogs. If everyone does that, geometric progression will take care of spreading it to all blogs in the Indian Blogosphere.

If nothing else, just sign the online petition of Lt. Saurabh Kalia’s father.

I have never seen you “involved” in in something like this, just one more sign of advancing age I guess 🙂 But d’souzas link among the others strikes a jarring note. He’s a guy who has an obvious political axe to grind.

>> If the bodies were so badly mutilated, why did Pakistan not just throw them away? Why even bother to hand them over? Was that country unaware of the opprobrium and outrage that would result? Why did India not make an immediate and loud fuss right there at the border? Why whisk the six dead soldiers away for a closed-door post-mortem in Delhi?

What is D’Souza trying to insinuate here ? And are his insinuations or his “second guessing” in line with what the parents of Saurabh Kalia or you want to point out ?

SJ Man…

You are absolutely right. I usually dont post stuff like this. But somehow thinking about the condition of Lt. Kalia’s parents, I felt this is the least we can do for them.

Cheers,
D.

I am proud father of Capt. Saurabh Kalia and my grateful thanks to lakhs of people around the world supporting this noble cause of national importance. This is not only Saurabh’s & his men case but involving national pride and honour of our men in uniform. Though world may not comment for Pak character due to some obvious vested interest but their barbaric deeds in East Pak (now Bangladesh), in Pearl’s murder & genocide in their frontier areas recently are only a few glaring examples of what they think of human life, the greatest gift of God.

I happened to write to erstwhile Pak PM, Mr. Nawaz Sharif and also requested for audience with Pak Prez when visiting Agra only to ask one question, what turmoil Pak would have witnessed had India done to over 90000 Pak POWs in 1971 they did to Saurabh & his men.

I can send copy of the preliminary report of Saurabh’s death to anyone showing an iota of doubt of the incident. What a shame, a person of stature of DGMO of Pak army, continuing to deny the presence of Saurabh & party when contacted, the Skardu Radio (POK)announcing the capture of this injured party but with a changed name, Lt. V K Kalia, what can be a greater lie, may be habit.

I completely agree with what you have to say… my father is in the army and i now what feels like when we hear abt such things happening to ur people… it might be normal for people to hear that… another Army man killed in Baramulla… BSF camp attacked… but ask us how it feels when we here of these incidents…

our army is not involved in acts of aggression in J&K… they die preventing acts of millitancy… and securin a future for the people and the nation… i dont want ny Indian to meet the faith of LT SAURABH KALIA n his team…

this is a must read for those who think soldiers are paid to die… remember patriotism cannot be bought… the Army is not a bunch of goats to be slaughtered… Cannon fodder to be fed to the enemy guns… they our our frenz… brothers… fathers… husbands…sons… who chose martyrdom to a petty life…
jai hind!!
